Unbound in the Philippines has five offices and more than 50,000 sponsored members, including children, youth and elders. As communications liaison for the Philippines, I cover stories from the region through text, photos, audio and video. To be able to effectively cover the whole region, a correspondent network was created. It’s composed of sponsored students and Unbound scholarship holders who have an interest in writing and photography. They receive basic training in journalism and photography, and I encourage them to submit story ideas that could inspire the Unbound community.

Everyone has a story to tell, a story that needs to be heard.
As an Unbound communications liaison for Africa, I listen and document people’s stories with words, photos and video clips to share with the Unbound community through publications, the blog, social media and other platforms.

Communications in our day can be challenging. Everything is fast. Many prefer short videos, fast-scrolling in their social media. They get bored with stories with a lot of words.
These same people, however, still appreciate true, honest, life-changing stories from real people, videos that capture the dignity of the person and natural photos depicting the true beauty of the humans of our world.
The Earth is a truly amazing place, from deserts to rain forests and ice-capped mountains. Check out these photos from some of the countries where Unbound works and immerse yourself in the sites seen by sponsored friends around the world.
Each year, Unbound get the chance to share some amazing photos of our work around the world. The stories and images of the families we serve are just one way we show our supporters how they’re making a difference. Here’s a selection of some of our Kansas City staff’s favorite photos from 2015.
Flor flashes a grin as she cooks a tortilla in her family’s kitchen.
Flor starts her day at 4 a.m. She wakes up, brushes her teeth and then grinds corn so her grandmother can make and sell tortillas. She then works as a nanny from 6 until around noon. After that she tries to spend some time with her family before she heads out again for her night classes from 6 until around 10. After class, she takes the bus home and gets ready for bed.
“That’s my daily routine,” she said. “That’s how my beautiful days are.”

Unbound’s sponsorship program is unique. We empower families to have the primary voice in making decisions that will impact their lives. Our program is so personalized you might even say we have more than 300,000 sponsorship programs — one for each individual sponsored through Unbound.
