Recently we invited our blog readers to take advantage of an opportunity to receive a free 2011 CFCA desk calendar by sharing their sponsorship story with others.
Thanks to the three people who submitted comments to our CFCA blog and won a calendar! We still have a limited number of calendars left, so feel free to submit other comments or blog posts for us and†let us know!
“I am writing about our sponsorship of Maria, who lives in Guatemala – about 3 hours from San Lucas.
Marsha meeting Maria and her family.
My husband and I have sponsored her since she was 5 and she is now 13. I have had the opportunity to go to Guatemala and meet with Maria on 3 differnat occasions.
It is the most wonderful feeling to be able to look that little girl in the eye and see the love that you have for each other.
I don’t speak Spanish and she doesn’t speak English. BUT no words need to be said when you get together and share that special time. And yes CFCA is so gracious to have a translator for you.
I have been able to write to her and send pictures and she in turn writes back and I have recieved many pictures over the yers. She has a special family and I have met mom and dad – Bonita and Antonio.
The love you see in their eyes is so amazing when they touch their heart and say thank you for what you do.
It has been an amazing experience to learn about Maria and her family and CFCA and about the country. I thank God for you all, and i will continue to go back and visit. What a blessing you all are.
Sincerely Marsha M – Minnesota”
“I have sponsored a few children who had to leave the program. I have sponsored Evelyn since she was 9. She is going to be 17. She brings me much joy through our letters. I hope to meet her this year. I have grown to love her as my own daughter. She gives me much more than I give her. I am blessed to have her in my life!
“This past September my Dad passed away after battling cancer. My husband Nick and I had a great desire to honor my Dad’s memory and wanted to do more then just make a monetary donation to a cancer foundation, etc.
My parents had sponsored a young girl from Guatemala for several years and we were interested in learning more.
We visited the CFCA website to learn more information and thought, ‘What do I spend $30.00 a month on? Dinner out, a movie, ….’ Items or activities we never thought much about. We were overwhelmed to learn that $30/month could provide food, clothing, medical attention, schooling, etc. for a child in need.
We scanned through the young children featured on the website and as soon as we saw Daniel we felt an immediate connection to him. He had just lost his father around the same time my Dad passed away.
I was so fortunate to have my Dad for 38 years yet here was this young child, fatherless at only six, with siblings and in need of sponsorship. We immediately responded to sponsor Daniel and waited in anticipation for his packet and photo to arrive.
As excited as we were to receive our sponsored child’s info, reading it brought me to tears. After speaking with my husband we contact the CFCA office the following day to inquire if Daniel’s sibling was available for sponsorship as we were very touched by the family’s plight.
After a few weeks we learned Daniel’s sibling was not available so we in turn decided to sponsor an additional child. This time we chose a young girl from Guatemala. We just received Rosa’s information the other day and we are working on our letter and care package to send out to her.
We keep both children’s pictures framed in our family room with pictures of our other family and friends. They are now a part of our family!
I know my Dad would be so proud of us! My brother and his wife are also sponsoring a child. I urge my family and friends to do the same and try to get the word out about CFCA whenever I can.
Our sponsorships of these children have been one of the most rewarding experiences we have ever had and we look forward to having long and lasting relationships with these children and CFCA.
Thank you for all you do!
Nick and Kelly Avraam”
