One big family of parents and children

Your weekly reflection from Unbound

Every week we offer a prayerful reflection from a member of the Unbound community. This week our reflection was written by Regional Project Director Ernest Makulilo.

One of the happiest moments of my life was the day I became a parent. Holding my son, Benedikt, gave me new perspective on my life. I completely changed from going about my day-to-day for myself, and began thinking about the future of my child. I appreciated and thanked God for the gift of life.

All parents, like Akwilina in Tanzania (above), undergo the same responsibilities. It doesn’t matter what part of the world you live in or how much money you have. All parents are called to teach their children to cherish the gift of life from God and to respect others. We owe it to them to guide them to success and help them become outstanding members of our communities.

I have the privilege of traveling and visiting many Unbound parents in different countries. Unbound mothers and fathers are no different from parents in America when it comes to believing in their children and loving them dearly. They know for sure their children are God’s masterpieces and agents of world change as expressed in Jeremiah 1:5: Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.”

Please pray

Dear Loving God, you have given us children as your precious gift. Continue to bless and give us more strength to help our families. Help us to continue to walk together as parents supporting one another despite our distances as sponsors and sponsored families. Give us the wisdom to recognize that we are all one big family, seeking a better world for our children. We ask this in your holy name, Amen.
