Every week we offer a prayerful reflection from a member of the Unbound community. This week our reflection was written by Regional Project Director Ernest Makulilo.
On Oct. 11, we celebrate International Day of the Girl Child. The purpose of the day is to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. This year’s theme is “Girls’ Progress = Goals’ Progress.”
The Unbound world has more than 146,000 sponsored girls in 19 countries. These girls, along with their parents, are agents of change in their families and communities. They have individual goals and family goals that can transform the world.
I am the very proud father of a baby girl, Clare Francisca, who is going to be 2 years old next month. One thing I know I have to do is to support and help her overcome challenges ahead.
I believe that our civilization and our humanity depend on girls and women. Mothers spend more time than anybody raising children; therefore, if we want a better world for ourselves and our children, we need to stand up for the rights of girls and make sure their goals are attained.
The goals of Clare and other girls are part of the future of our beautiful world.
Our Beloved God, we ask you to give us more wisdom and love to stand with girl children. They are the cornerstones of our families and civilization. Their goals are our future. May you protect our future, and protect our girls. We ask this through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
