By Loretta Shea Kline, managing editor for Unbound
The story of Unbound comes to life in a special 35th anniversary edition of our Living Unbound publication, which will be mailed to sponsors and other supporters Nov. 7.
The edition features stories and images from Unbound’s founding to the present, illustrating how the vision of the founders continues in our programs today.
Highlights include an interview with Florelia Delgado in Bogota, Colombia, who, as an elementary student in the early 1980s, was the first child sponsored through our organization.
Mike and Peggy Kahler, a Kansas couple who were among the first to sponsor a child, share how sponsoring children over three-and-a-half decades has informed their worldview. Sponsors Ron and Dawn Dutton, also from Kansas, talk about learning to have courage in their own lives after reading letters from their sponsored children.
And newly sponsored members, elder Moses in Kenya and Magnolia, the mother of 6-year-old C’zarine in the Philippines, discuss their hopes for the future like providing for family and attaining dreams through education.
Living Unbound is our flagship publication, going out to more than 250,000 readers in all 50 U.S. states and around the world. While our primary audience is the Unbound community, anyone interested in learning more about our work can request a free subscription or access Living Unbound and our other publications on our website.
Published twice a year in the fall/winter and spring/summer time frames, Living Unbound provides a window into our work and features the people who are part of this extraordinary movement. It was recognized earlier this year with a KC Quills Best in Show Award of Excellence from the Kansas City Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators. And at Nonprofit Connect’s Philly Awards Nov. 2 in Kansas City, it received an Award of Distinction and two additional honors.
Living Unbound and our other publication that goes to all sponsors, Impact, are integral to our efforts to inform and inspire the Unbound community and invite greater participation, whether that means encouraging sponsors to write to or pray for their sponsored friends or participate in other ways, such as volunteering or joining efforts to raise awareness of our work.
At Unbound, we see our sponsors as much more than donors. We see them as partners in a community of compassion. To that end, Living Unbound and our other communications vehicles, including this blog, offer ways for sponsors to engage on a deeper level and experience the worldwide Unbound community beyond their individual sponsorships.
In addition to our print publications, we have a monthly eNews and weekly Prayer Partners email available to sponsors and anyone interested in connecting with our community. Simply sign up on our website.
And if you’re on our mailing list for Living Unbound, please watch for our anniversary issue coming soon to your mailbox.
Thank you for engaging with Unbound through our publications. We hope the stories and images of our community around the world inspire you in your own life.
