Microsoft Windows recently launched its #UpgradeYourWorld campaign to celebrate nonprofits doing good work around the world. They’ve selected nine and they’re searching for one more international organization to fill the last spot.

Unbound wants to be the 10th nonprofit picked to win $500,000 to support our work — part of a $10 million Microsoft Windows investment.

The 10th organization will be chosen by the people and the number of votes collected via Twitter, Instagram and Facebook so we need your help!

Here are 10 reasons why Unbound should be one of Microsoft Windows’ global nonprofits.

10. Unbound believes in the wisdom of mothers.

Mothers are often the primary caregivers and know what their families need most to succeed. Our programs are designed in true partnership with the mothers, encouraging them to participate in defining benefits and services for their children.

9. Unbound believes in strong families.

Unbound sponsorship goes beyond distributing material goods and empowers families to become self-sufficient. Families — those with both parents in the home and those headed by one parent or guardian — are the pillars of a strong, supportive community.

8. Unbound believes in the power of friendships.

Unbound provides the opportunity for the sponsor and sponsored friend to make a real connection that gives hope and meaning to both. This connection opens a window between the two worlds and reveals the bonds that tie us together as one human family.

7. Unbound believes in the power of education.

When you support Education through Unbound, you help students continue their educations into secondary schools, technical schools or even university programs.

6. Unbound believes in the dignity of all human beings.

Unbound recognizes the inherent dignity of all human beings. When we create a true exchange of cultures, understanding and love as equals, we are doing more than alleviating material poverty. We are also creating the bonds of lasting peace and unity among people of diverse faiths and backgrounds.

5. Unbound believes in hope.

Because the families Unbound serves are active participants in the program and in their own struggle, hope is a powerful gift that can help them overcome tremendous odds. Their courage in the face of poverty brings hope to their sponsors as well.

4. Unbound provides microfunding opportunities.

Unbound enables small groups of parents to develop creative, practical ideas aimed at generating income in their communities. Families meet regularly and support one another in bringing their initiatives to life.

3. Unbound is a good steward of resources.

Unbound makes sure donations work hard to meet your sponsored friend’s needs. This focus results in high ratings from independent charity watchdog groups. We’re committed to keeping our costs low so that we can send the maximum amount of support directly to the field. Our sponsors, and our sponsored friends, deserve that.

2. Unbound helps kids around the world and in our own backyard.

Unbound sponsors a room at Operation Breakthrough, an organization that cares each weekday for more than 400 children, ages 6 weeks to 13 years. More than 20 percent of the children are homeless or near homeless, living in womens or homeless shelters or transitional living programs in Kansas City. Unbound provides funding for mental health care for the kids and family services to help moms provide better lives for their children.

1. Unbound sponsorship makes a difference.

Unbound employs a three-tier approach to measuring program effectiveness and outcomes for sponsored persons and their families. This framework reflects Unbound’s commitment to personal relationships and outreach, while recognizing the value of evaluation for program development and the power of experience in a global organization.

Supporters of Unbound can vote daily on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook using the hashtags #UpgradeYourWorld and #Vote. The contest ends on August 23.
