Giving Tuesday 2013

Give education. Give Hope. Give for Giving Tuesday.

Whew. The holiday weekend is over. We’ve given thanks, eaten at least one feast, hunted deals and shopped online.

Now we get to take a deep breath. We get to turn our attention to others as we embrace the generosity that marks this season, one of giving thanks and giving gifts. Today, we give back.

Today is Giving Tuesday, a world-wide movement encouraging us all to donate and volunteer, working together to make our world a better place.

Many of you are already helping students like James and Cyrus create a better life for themselves and their family.

The brothers are CFCA-sponsored youth and scholarship students in the Philippines. Your support has always been necessary to help them afford school tuition. Cyrus is studying for a bachelor’s degree, and James is in seventh grade.

Education is the key to break the cycle of poverty. These brothers, like all our scholarship students, are determined to break towards freedom.

Students like Cyrus and James need your help now more than ever.

All that’s left of the family’s home is a pile of rubble after Super Typhoon Haiyan slashed through their community in the Philippines last month. To add insult to injury, their crops have been devastated, and their coconut trees, a source of income, fell in the storm.

But despite their intense loss, the family remains hopeful.

“Thank you, Lord, that I have been part of CFCA because it is really a big help for me in terms of my studies,” James said. “I will really study well so that I could be able to help my brothers and my family as well.”

Children living in poverty know that education is their way out. But all too often, their families can’t afford the required tuition, or the necessary books and supplies.

You can change that. By donating to the scholarship fund, you provide bus fare, textbooks, school tuition and uniforms. You open the doors to hope.

“We encountered a lot of challenges in our lives,” Cyrus said, “but I believe because of our hard work and love for each other we could work as one and be able to recover.”

It’s our love for each other that gives us strength to overcome. Let’s help Cyrus and James, and students just like them, overcome. Let’s show them the power of giving, the power of #GivingTuesday.

Donate today and tell your friends! Share this blog post. Tweet using the hashtag #GivingTuesday. Be part of the movement to give back.
