Happy Thanksgiving, and thank you!

Tomorrow, we celebrate Thanksgiving in the United States and at CFCA headquarters in Kansas City. Our office will be closed tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day, and Nov. 23.

This Thanksgiving, hear messages from CFCA sponsored friends and family members as they share their hopes and dreams with you.

This video was made especially for our sponsors, who provide hope for families all around the world. Thank you for making a commitment to your sponsored friend. You are making a difference.

We hope you will take some time throughout the day to offer up little prayers of gratitude for Godís gifts to you.

We are especially grateful at CFCA for the opportunity to connect families who have so much talent and potential, but who are in need of help, with sponsors willing to share their good will and solidarity around the world.

At our headquarters in Kansas City, we like to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with a special meal for our volunteers and employees. We gather together to give thanks for all of those we serve.

Jello-Cranberry Salad … mmm!

We leave you with a wonderful Jello-Cranberry Salad recipe from Jan at our Kansas City headquarters. Jan makes this for our Thanksgiving luncheons. We hope you all enjoy it as much as we do!

Jello-Cranberry Salad:
3-oz box cranberry jello
16-oz can cranberry sauce (whole berry)
11-oz can mandarin oranges (cut up)
1/2 cup chopped pecans
Cool Whip (optional)

Make jello according to box instructions. You can substitute some of the mandarin orange juice for some of the water.

Add above ingredients. Mix well. Chill. Top with Cool Whip if desired.

From all of us at CFCA, have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

CFCA mission awareness trip to Guatemala

2008 CFCA archives photo from a mission awareness trip to Guatemala.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving Day in the United States (and CFCA’s 30th anniversary, which was Nov. 20), may we be especially thankful ñ for the gift of gratitude!

It’s not unusual for CFCA sponsors who visit the communities where we work to feel overwhelmed by the gratitude of those who live there.

Many travelers are deeply touched and even humbled by this experience.

What sponsors come to learn at such times is the importance of allowing people to be thankful.

They learn that gratitude is a blessing not only for those who receive it, but also for those who express it.

Thankfulness is healing. It lifts us out of ourselves and forms bonds of solidarity that beg to be celebrated with fervent joy.

Happy Thanksgiving to our CFCA community!

4 ways to remember your sponsored friend at Thanksgiving

CFCA sponsor Catherine Donahue gets a hug from her sponsored child, Betty, during an awareness trip to Colombia

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to reflect on the many blessings we are grateful for. Why not take a moment to give thanks for the sponsored child or elderly friend in your life?

Here are four ideas for remembering your sponsored friend during this special day.

1. Add a new dining tradition to your Thanksgiving meal. Research a recipe from your sponsored friend’s country and serve it with all your other favorites. Family and friends will have many questions, and you can share with them about CFCA.

2. Give thanks for your sponsored friend by keeping a photo nearby. Share with your guests why sponsorship is important to you.

3. Contact CFCA to receive a profile of a child or aging friend awaiting sponsorship. This Thanksgiving, inspire someone else to make a difference.

4. Say one thing you appreciate about the person sitting next to you at the Thanksgiving table, and go around the room until everyone has had a chance to participate. Include your sponsored friend as one of the people you’re thankful for.

If you have other ideas of how you and your family can incorporate CFCA into your own holiday traditions, we’d love to hear them.

In just one example, the Hubbards creatively made Christmas tree ornaments of children awaiting sponsorship last year.

Perhaps you have another idea you’d like to share with us. Let us know in the comments below!

Twitter chat: What are you thankful for but often take for granted? (#cfcachat)

Artwork by a child sponsored in Guatemala to @biggreenpen's daughter.

Yesterday we conducted a Twitter chat all about giving thanks (just in time for Thanksgiving)!

It was a great topic, and we enjoyed your ideas. Submissions ranged from access to clean water to family health and washing machines.

We’re grateful for all the participation and engagement during this hour-long chat. If you haven’t had a chance yet to join our Twitter chats, we’d love to see you next time!
