Meet Neha, Mateo and Daphine: Three kids who need sponsors

At Unbound, sponsorship helps children go to school, have healthy diets and improves the living situation for the entire family.
But it’s more than just tangible goods.

Sponsorship also creates a one-to-one connection between the sponsor and the sponsored friend. They get to know one another through notes and photos, and the sponsor gets to see how sponsorship impacts the sponsored friend’s life.

Neha, Mateo and Daphine are all waiting to start that connection.

Help us find sponsors for these three kids. Share this post on social media and let’s get them sponsored.

A confident smile is the first thing you notice about Doris. It lights up the home where she lives with her mom, dad and baby brother.

It’s a tiny but tidy two-room space. An American visitor might notice the walls are covered with cardboard to insulate against cold weather.

Doris wants to be an engineer so she can design homes that are much sturdier than the one she lives in.

“When you are an engineer you get to draw,” Doris explained. “And I like to draw houses.”

Yurani, an Unbound scholar from Colombia, demonstrates her skills in the kitchen.

By Jordan Kimbrell, Unbound writer/editor

Most mornings, Yurani walks alone to the bus that takes her to the local university, a short 15-minute ride away.

Though she walks alone, Yurani knows she has her family and the entire Unbound community beside her.

Before heading off to catch a bus, Yurani helps her younger brother, Daniel, make the bed. Some weekdays, she also helps her mother prepare lunch for the whole family.

For Yurani, cooking meals is one of her favorite chores, and it gives her good practice for her studies. Yurani is studying gastronomy, or the art and science of gourmet cuisine.

“When I was younger my dream was to be a chef,” Yurani said. “[Now] my dream is to have my own restaurant.”
