Richard, a former sponsored youth in the Philippines, endured many obstacles throughout his life. But he didn’t let that stop him from pursuing his dream of being a teacher.
The CFCA project in Legazpi, Philippines, recently sent us success stories from young adults who were sponsored through CFCA. Here’s one from Richard!
Early in the morning on the cold day of August 9, 1991, I was born and indeed blessed with love.
I was raised with care and taught righteous morals and principles by my loving parents Judita and Rolly.
We were content with living simply, when things we needed were neither too much nor too little to satisfy our daily needs.
Things for us were perfectly balanced, but those beautiful days didn’t last long.
In the year 2000 my father was fired from his work as a security guard.
Those beautiful things that were once a reality turned into dreams.
I was entering grade four at the time and life kept turning hard and unbearable for us.
To keep us in school, my mother had to work as a housemaid and my father ended up as a laborer.
God is truly good to trace back the past. In 2001, not long after my father lost his job, I became a CFCA sponsored friend.
All of a sudden everything changed at once in my young eyes and innocent mind.
I was learning that sharing, caring and love for one’s fellow man still does exist.
Since then, more blessings continuously came into my life.
Because of CFCA I’ve been in different places. I also got a chance to talk and mingle with other sponsored friends. I also attended special CFCA gatherings.
These are just a few of the ways the sponsorship program influenced my life morally, mentally and spiritually.
I received benefits through the CFCA sponsorship program until I graduated college with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
I was impressed as I went deeper into my relationship with CFCA. The more I learned, the more I was inspired by their roles.
CFCA is the only program I ever knew that seemed to be the greatest, yet remained humble.
It proves that money is just a material thing, but abstract things like love and care for others still count nowadays.
As a member of CFCA for more than nine years, I learned more than what teachers taught in school.
What I learned is more important than the ideas and principles of philosophers and more essential than the discoveries of scientists.
I learned that CFCA sponsorship is a relationship that no one can change.
