How do I make a special donation for my sponsored friend?

Ask Sponsor ServicesQ. I learned through my sponsored friend’s family profile that she sleeps on a straw mat, and I would like to buy her a bed. Is there a way to make an extra contribution for my sponsored friend beyond the $30 monthly sponsorship contribution?

A. CFCA has several funds designed to address special circumstances of sponsored friends and their families. If your friend tells you of a special circumstance through their letters and you want to make a special contribution, contact Sponsor Services for assistance.

CFCA and our field staff will work with your sponsored friend and family to use your contribution effectively. Once your friend’s needs have been addressed, any unused portion of the funds may be used to help another member of your sponsored friend’s family or another person in the CFCA community.

Special needs funds allow you to help address critical needs identified by your sponsored friend or family that go beyond what regular monthly sponsorship can cover. Needs may include medical emergencies, home furnishing items, housing repairs or assistance in times of financial crisis.

Please note that donations for special needs must be handled through Sponsor Services.

For more information, please email mail@cfcausa.org or call Sponsor Services at (800) 875-6564 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time.

  1. This is truly what sets CFCA apart from other sponsorship organizations. The communication between sponsor services and sponsers is excellent and you can tell that all of the CFCA employees, here and abroad, really know and care about each and every family member.

I recently collected funds from my friends, family, and co-workers so that my sponsored child’s mother could attend an educational training program in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Education is so inexpensive in other countries compared to here in the United States and a small investment can make such a significant difference. For less than $1,000, this mother will be able to attend a one-year program to specialize in tailoring and sewing. The fee includes transportation, tuition, supplies, child care, a sewing machine, and 1 extra specialization course.

I was excited to learn that my sponsored child’s mother was told THIS WEEK that she will be attending this program! I would have given anything to see her face and to know her thoughts, especially when she first walks into the program, and to know what her three children are thinking and feeling as mom heads off to school. It’s a wonderful thing. Thank you CFCA for making this possible! CFCA USA and CFCA Bolivia! Now I am beginning a new project to help send students in Uganda to college or to continue their studies. Often, these bright students have to discontinue their studies because they cannot afford textbooks, uniforms, or tuition. Even small extra donations can make the difference between a student continuing in school or having to drop out.

I encourage sponsors to inquire about the educational opportunities for the parents of their sponsored children. Also, CFCA is the only organization i know about where you can donate to a special college fund for your sponsored child. You can donate any amount each month and when your child is of age, your funds can go to their college expenses. If your child does not go to college for any reason, the funds go to a member of their family first, then a member of the community, and so on, until the funds are used toward education. It is an excellent model.

I am interested in building or improving schools and libraries, and in increasing education opportunities for adults and children, in the sponsorship areas. Being able to work on these special projects would not be possible if CFCA was not willing to go the extra mile to co-ordinate these projects administratively and financially. They are amazing and I cannot thank them enough for everything they do. What a creative approach! I am so grateful to be a sponsor with this organization.

    God Bless,
    Teresa Lane

  2. Veronica,
As of today, I am a new sponsor. In celebration of my upcoming 50th birthday, I have decided to give myself the best gift. The gift of giving. I made my first $30.00 payment today. I am so excited not only for myself, but Emanuel (Colombia) and his single mother. I have challenged my other friends who are approaching their 50th birthdays to do the same. Happy Birthday to me!

    1. Janice,

Congratulations on becoming a new sponsor! I remember making my first sponsorship contribution, and it was a great feeling.

Congrats again, and I hope you have a very happy birthday!
